"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! all there is and it's everything

Today I just want to hold each moment as I wonder "is this ever going to get old?"  Of course I know the answer.  No... it's not.  Forever and for eternity it will grow more sweet and embracing and real. Anyone who has tasted life without understanding and then tasted that the Lord is good understands what I'm talking about.  Anyone who has not dipped into the everlasting Well Of Life needs to know...  Needs to know that we are 'in the world but not of it' ~ just as quickly as we believe.  That when we offer ourselves as living sacrifices consecrated to Him, joy and peace and purpose are ours.  Old things pass away and our vision (though still looking through a glass darkly) is cleared.  And abundance is our inheritance.

Let me always trust in thee
let my comfort always be
the truth I know, not what I see
My Compass

As I walk I learn and wonder
that you turned my sin asunder
Mighty One who claps the thunder
My Fortress

Peace, elation in great measure
Truth and Manna, wondrous treasure
giver of embracing pleasure
My Jesus

a peek at my dark side

I don't take days like these for granted.  I jump in with both feet and a holler because I know they are getting fewer and farther between.  Am I wrong?  Of course I hope I am, but then the worst thing that can happen is I am wrong and I jumped into these opportunities when there are plenty more to come!  Not a bad scenario.

A time for everyone to meet together, eat together and hike together (in a cold dark cave) presented itself last weekend.  Usually this is  a favorite thing to do when it's above 90 degrees outside as the inside is a consistent 42 degrees year round.  It's amazing, as you approach the mouth of the cave you feel the drop in temperature... three steps in and you are blowing frost.

This day that we chose was lovely but it was only about 63 degrees outside so I was a bit apprehensive about my level of comfort.  I like to be comfortable.  :)  No worries.  Once you got moving it felt great.  Especially if you took a turn carrying the propane lantern which gives off a modicum of heat.  Yep, carried that lantern for awhile.

If you're ever in Central Oregon give me a call.  This is where we will go.  I'll shove you in the mini-van, treat you to a bag of peanuts, pop a glow stick on your wrist and we'll be off!  I'll even carry the lantern.

** The different lighting in the pictures is from the flash.  You can't see a thing unless you are within a close radius to the hand held lights.  There is no other light in the cave and it is BLACK.  Mwah hah hah hah...

something pink

I've cast on a little something pink for an upcoming baby shower (close your eyes Hillary, don't follow the link!).  This pattern has been living in my knitting notebook for over a year now just waiting for the right moment to jump to attention.  It's supposed to fit a 3 month old and I am hopeful since Charlotte will be 3 months in September/October, just about the time a little something is needed when the evenings begin to cool.  I am using more of the same thrifted Dreamincolor yarn that I used to make this dress.

Still poking my way through George Muller of Bristol by Arthur Pierson.  I can only take it in very small doses because after only a paragraph or two I'm jotting in my notebook, then praying, then closing the book because I want to spend the day meditating on what I've read.

Home-making by J.R. Miller (available on Kindle) is another such read that is getting my attention right now. While originally published in 1882 it is filled with timeless truths that also have me reading small snippets and then closing the book for the day, that I may ponder.  As I write about these two old books and the goodness within I am reminded of Jeremiah 6:16 ~ This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls...

we're getting closer...

This time leading up to the grand appearance of my snuggle baby...  I'm loving every minute of it.  Hillary was home last weekend (was it really over a week ago?)  for her 'this side of the mountain' baby shower.  There was much love and great loot!

The day promised to continue raining as it was time to set up outside and as we stared at one another with our hands in our pockets and our 'dear in the headlights' look, suddenly the sun peeked through the clouds calling us into the yard and we made the decision to go for it.

We had a good hour of sweater removal, about a half an hour of sweaters back on, 20 minutes or so of wrapped in blankets before the rain came and we made a mad dash inside to finish opening presents.  It was Great!  The food was fabulous, the games were fun, friends and family were generous and Hillary glowed. This is one blessed baby.  :)

Praying love (and warmth) for you this day!  :)

we salute you

Remembering those who died today and being thankful.  My prayer is that the hearts of Americans would be convicted to bravery when our freedoms are threatened.  That we would have a vision for the future that puts self on the line for grandchildren and great grandchildren to be.  I'm proud to be an American of the 'old school' variety and I'm thankful for those who went before as examples of such bravery.

God Bless, Debbie

the music man

Or should I title this post, The Music Man's Son?  Crazy insane talent in his family.  I remember when Chad (with his adolescent voice cracking) performed his original rendition of Puff The Tragic Wagon and a little ditty that sounded much like, "The best part of waking up is Folger's in your cup" at the home school showcase.  I also remember a few years later when he kept the kids (and adults) awestruck with his juggling tricks.  Once he had me awestruck (again) as he tapped a rhythm on one leg and then added another to the other leg.  The new rhythm was a different timing as in 4/4 and 3/3, it was one of the craziest things I had ever seen... heard?

Chad is all grown up, married and a daddy playing with the band Kasen&Co.  A couple of years after marrying, he and his wife gave birth to the twin girls who have become quite dear to our family.  We've kept them often these first 4 years of their life and to say thank you, Erin and Audrey are in Chad's Rock Star class.. just for fun.  Neither of them has star inclinations but they are having a good time and learning from the master (or the masters son?).

Chad's father is the luthier I referred to here.  He makes beautiful instruments and gives them voice. The Campbells are local celebrities with amazing musical giftings.  Chad's mother is one of my best friends and she and her husband have taught me so much.

They taught me to let my light shine.  They taught me that my money wasn't my money at all and that God just channels funds through His children. They remind me often that God is good all the time and to look up. They write and sing beautiful, beautiful songs.  They write them for Him and they sing them to Him.  When I grow up, I want to be just like them.

Oh yes, the wonderful mixed media painting in the first picture hangs in the studio and is done by Chad's sister Anna.  Whatever.  :)
